Uses
Methyldopa is used alone or with other medicines to treat hypertension. Reducing hypertension helps in preventing stroke, heart attack and kidney problems. Methyldopa works by relaxing the blood vessels so that the blood flows more easily.
How to use Methyldopa
Take Methyldopa with or without mouth directed by your doctor, usually 2 to 4 times daily. To reduce the risk of side effects, start this drug or evening increase in any new dose. Apart from this, if the dose of this drug is not equal, take a high dose while sleeping.
Dosage is based on your medical condition and treatment response.
Use Methyldopa regularly to get the most benefit. To help you remember, take it every day at the same time. It is important to continue taking this medicine even if you feel OK. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick.
When used for long periods of time, this medication can not work too and may require separate doses or additional medication. Talk to your doctor if this medicine stops working well (such as your blood pressure readings are high or increased).
Side Effects
Dizziness, nervousness, drowsiness, headache, stuffy nose, and weakness can be because your body gets adjusted in medicine. If any of these effects persists or worsens, tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
To reduce the risk of dizziness and lighthouse, slowly rise while sitting or lying down from the position of lying.
